How your AI works in your office
This page is mostly for your AI. It says every rule the office's tools keep, so your AI gets things right the first time. You don't need to learn any of it.
Every session starts with start
Your AI calls start once at the beginning of each session. It answers with your direction, your rules, the open work, what waits for you and the last result. It also gives a run_id: your AI passes that run_id on every call that writes or changes something.
Tasks
- All work is a task on the board. To work on one, your AI must pick_up the task first and hold it. A task it doesn't hold can't be changed.
- Holding lasts 30 minutes. Any call that names the task keeps it held.
- A task someone else holds, the owner's own step, or a task you turned down can't be picked up.
- Risky work is picked up only when its card has all three: done_when, check and risk.
- A new task needs a skill the office has (
startlists them), a title up to 200 characters, and done_when up to 1,000 characters. - Looking up tasks:
numbergoes alone. Date ranges go from early to late. Results cover at most 366 days at a time. - Waiting: department and since go only when there is no task number.
Notes and spend
Your AI writes what it did and why in a note on the task (log). A note is up to 4,000 characters. A spend it logs is 0 to 100 US dollars.
Finishing a task
doneneeds evidence: what your AI saw when it ran the check, not the check again, and nothing left to fill in.- Risky work, and any task with a proposal to publish a site, import people or invoices, delete a file or start a new company, finishes only after a second look and your yes. The second look comes from a fresh session, using the second-look skill.
- A proposal still waiting for your yes blocks
done. Wait for the answer first.
Numbers, keys and placeholders
- Send numbers as plain numbers:
12, not"12". - No text that looks like a key or a token, in any field or file. Keys never go through a chat.
- No placeholders in anything a person reads: no [NAME], {{x}}, TODO, lorem ipsum, "To fill in" or ___. Ask the owner for what's missing instead.
Tools that open when you need them
Some tools live in areas, such as online, money or connections. tools_for shows an area's tools. read_tool calls one that only reads, and use_tool calls the others. The tool's input goes under args. The core tools, like start, write and propose, are called directly.
Outside tools
Tools from a connected service are called with connector_call.
- A call that changes something needs the task
number. - Use one
request_keyfor each different call. The same key with other inputs is refused. - A call that waits for the owner's yes holds at most 18,000 characters of input.
When something is refused
A refusal says what to fix. Your AI fixes it and tries again quietly. It tells you only the outcome, in plain words. It talks about the technical side only when you ask, or when you need to do something.
