Emails and sequences

Your AI writes your emails in your voice. Company of One sends them for you. Nothing goes to your customers without your yes.

Who sends your email

We send every email for you through our own email service. You don't set anything up to start. To send from your own address, like hello@yourdomain.com, ask your AI to set up your email domain. It gives you a few lines to add where your domain is managed. Once they are found, usually within an hour, your address is ready by itself.

One email to one person

Your AI sends one person an email with email_person. It finds them first with people(email) and uses their person_id, never a typed address. You say yes to each one.

Several people at once

For a few people, your AI proposes one email (kind email, up to 20 people). With separately: true, each person gets their own copy and nobody sees the others. For many people, use your newsletter or a sequence.

See your newsletter first

On your newsletter's yes card, tap Send me a test. One copy goes to your own inbox only, marked [Test], exactly as your readers will see it. It counts nothing, and your readers get nothing until your yes. Changed a word? Send another test.

Sequences

A sequence is a set of emails that goes out by itself, each on its day, to everyone it starts for: a welcome series, a course, a follow-up. Your AI writes it as one file, rules/automations/<name>.json, with the build-an-automation skill. You say yes once, and after that it runs on its own: nobody gets an email twice, and never someone who said no.

  • The file is checked before it reaches you, so a mistake is fixed first.
  • Emails to many people need your business address in their footer. The law asks for it. So your address must be in rules/company-details.md (the Address line) first.
  • The fill-ins allowed are {{first_name}}, {{name}} and {{company}}, and your own fields on people (People › Your fields on people, like a wedding date), each as its key in braces. We fill those in for each person; someone without that field skips that one email.

Consent and unsubscribing

  • Marketing emails go only to people who said yes. The newsletter uses double opt-in: after someone signs up, they get an email to confirm, and they're on the list only after that click.
  • Every marketing email has a link to stop it with one click.
  • Your AI can mark someone as "no" (consent: false), but it can never mark a "yes" itself. A yes always comes from the person.

How many emails

Your plan includes a number of emails a month. Receipts and replies always go, even when that number is used up. A new sending address starts with a smaller daily amount for its first weeks, so inboxes learn to trust it. See "Limits".

When an email didn't arrive

  • During the free trial, emails go only to you. Your customers get them once you are on a plan.
  • An email that didn't go out shows in Approvals, with the reason.
  • An email can fill in only the person's first name, their name and your company's name. Other details, like a wedding date, can't be filled in yet.
  • Settings, Domains and email shows the name and address your emails come from.
